A split analysis of nasal harmony in Mbya

Abstract: This paper proposes an optimality theoretic analysis of nasal harmony in Mbya Guarani. I propose that this phenomenon is best understood as the product of two distinct phenomena: (i) nasal harmony be-tween adjacent syllable nuclei and (ii) nasal coarticulation from a vowel to an adjacent consonant edge.
